Cameron says he wants to advance its EU referendum – Les Echos

With the growing popularity of the independence of the UKIP, British Prime Minister could hold its referendum on maintaining in the EU before 2017.

The Conservative British Prime Minister David Cameron said Sunday wish to organize earlier than planned referendum on keeping the United Kingdom in the European Union, promised in 2017.

Under pressure from Eurosceptics in his own party and meet the growing popularity of the Party for the Independence of the United Kingdom (UKIP), which advocates an EU output and a tightening of immigration policy, David Cameron has promised to renegotiate the treaty that binds UK to the EU and to try to recover some powers from Brussels.

He promised for it to hold a referendum in 2017, when Conservative victory the parliamentary elections in May.

“The referendum must take place before the end of 2017. If we could do this earlier, I would be delighted. Earlier I can keep my promise to renegotiation and a referendum (…), the better, “said the head of government in a BBC program.



Wednesday meeting with Merkel

British Prime Minister presented his plan in late November to reduce immigration in his country, including limiting the access to social benefits for immigrants from EU Member States.

David Cameron should discuss his plans, which he has said, would require amendment of treaties of the EU, during a meeting with his German counterpart Angela Merkel on Wednesday in London.

German Chancellor has already said it would not allow a tightening of rules for the free movement of workers within the EU.

David Cameron’s Tories are in power in conjunction with the Liberal Democrats since 2010. Opinion polls give usually the Labour Labour slightly ahead of the vote for the ballot in May.

But many analysts believe that no party is likely to win him only the majority in the Commons and the country will again be led by a coalition government.
