After the discovery of the desecration of hundreds of graves in the Jewish cemetery in Sarre-Union (Bas-Rhin ), five minors, aged 15 and a half years to 17 years, were taken into custody Monday morning, said the prosecutor of Saverne.

One of them went himself to the police before appointing his comrades.

“They have committed the offense Thursday, February 12 in the afternoon between 15 hours and 18 hours. Two sequences were held. Between 15 and 17 hours first with 4 young then a second with the fifth would have attached to these shares, “detailed the prosecutor in the early afternoon, stating that he had still no details on the motivations of the five young men.

No criminal record

They are all from the Sarre-Union area: three of them are in school there, the other two being educated in the nearby town of Sarrebourg (Moselle). They have no criminal record, no “conviction (s) ideological (s) that could (are) explain their behavior.” “The miner who visited denies any Semitism (…) As it is, they are in custody for desecration of graves because of the religion of the deceased and committed jointly degradation. What makes them incurring 7 years imprisonment, “said the prosecutor.

According to the latter, “250 graves” were desecrated. The five miners “have mostly used their muscle strength, they pushed a lot of steles. Many things are reversed (…) Some tombs were opened without prejudice to the deceased (…) They saw the abandoned cemetery, “said the prosecutor.

The prosecutor and the gendarmerie group leader finally said that the hearings of the young men are ongoing and that the suspect entourage will be questioned. As for the cemetery in Sarre-Union, it will be protected “during the investigation. We will see the steps to take from then until the complete restoration of the cemetery, “says Thierry Thomas, head of the gendarmerie group.

A restoration should take time. “There is only one field of ruins,” confided Sunday evening to Parisien.fr Jacques Wolff, the representative of the Jewish community in the city. To express his support, Hollande announced that he would travel in Sarre-Union Tuesday morning
