Russia sends bombers near the French coast in … – The Express

As the war continues in eastern Ukraine between security forces and pro-Russian separatist Kiev, Moscow is playing more and more with European airspace. Sunday, the defense minister confirmed that Russian military planes had approached the French and British coasts on 28 January.

“I have found as a defense minister this presence a little untimely hunters, Russian aircraft, which came to walk for reasons unknown to me close to our shores, quipped Jean-Yves Le Drian during the interview Sunday of iTV / Le Monde / Europe 1. We told them that we had seen them and it was desirable that they retire, that’s what they did. ”

Russian bombers near the Channel

The incident refers to two Russian Tu-95 bombers, called “Bears” devices designed to Soviet era and capable of carrying nuclear weapons. They skirted Norwegian airspace up to the level of the Channel setting alert the Norwegian Air Force, British and French.

This is not the first time in a year that the bombers “Bears” are pushed away from the airspace of the crown, and therefore that of NATO, they graze without entering. Such maneuvers have earned the intervention of fighters based in Scotland in April, November and even the day of the convocation of the Russian ambassador in London, January 29, for an explanation.

Fifty incident in Europe in 11 months

Saturday Le Monde reported that NATO and the Sweden and Finland, which are not members identified fifty incidents with Russian aircraft over the last eleven months. “It is noted more activity than in the past and theft increasingly long”, told a source of military organization every day. Only Estonia, eight times, officially found a violation of NATO’s airspace.

In other cases, such as that mentioned by Le Drian, Russian aircraft were limited to the flight information region (FIR) monitored by one or more state, excluding space Air sovereign, up to 12 nautical miles (22.22 kilometers) from the coast. It is recognized that authority may remove a device from the FIR. Part of the FIR Channel is jointly supervised by France and the United Kingdom
