Clichy-sous-Bois: the trial comes to an end with the requisitions – The Obs

Rennes (AFP) – Ten years after the tragedy of Clichy-sous-Bois, the trial of two police officers prosecuted for failure to assist a person in danger after the death of two teenagers coming to an end Thursday with the submissions of floor.

The representative of the Crown, Delphine Dewailly must pronounce his submissions Thursday afternoon. Sébastien Gaillemin, 41, and Stephanie Klein, 38, incur a maximum of five years in prison and 75,000 euros fine. During the ten-year period of court proceedings, the prosecutor has consistently called for the dismissal.

Open since Monday in Rennes, the trial has passed the case to the screen since the intervention of the Police on a site of Livry-Gargan (Seine-Saint-Denis) October 27, 2005 at 17:21, which was put to flight a youth group.

“In this case, it is the fear that exposes young people, “says Emmanuel Tordjman in argument, one of the lawyers for the plaintiffs. The fear of the police but also to be late home because “they must go to break the fast of Ramadan,” said the lawyer.

Bouna Traore, 15, Zyed Benna, 17 and Muhittin Altun fled with two other young people through a forest before arriving at a cemetery in the nearby town, Clichy-sous-Bois. Behind them, the police stopped the pursuit.

But the young Cemetery entrance see another police car arrived. This is the peacekeeper Sébastien Gaillemin with two young members of his community policing unit.

Believing that other police arrive behind by wood, two boys hide in flower beds. The other three climb a fence that prevents access to the west of the cemetery, a small wood-lined himself five feet away from the wall of an EDF site.

Sebastian sees Gaillemin “two figures” climb the fence of the cemetery, report it to the radio. “They are trying to step over to go to the EDF site,” he loose. He does not know the place but sees beyond the pylons not far away. A few moments later, he commented: “If they go on the EDF site, I would not give much of their skin”

– real danger ‘-

Assigned to. police radio, the other prevented, Stephanie Klein, who did not know the place, explains think that this is an administrative site EDF, not a power plant.

Mr. Gaillemin explained that at that time, for him, the fact that young people can enter the EDF website is only a hypothesis among others. Rather than follow the young, he went around the block to see if they could go through the surrounding gardens.

Arriving at the main entrance of EDF site, it checks twice above the wall, sees nothing and returns with his colleagues to the cemetery where they challenge the young that are hidden there. Then leave the police station at 17h43.

To me Tordjman at that time “Mr. Gaillemin knows” than other young people entered the EDF website. While the police are already gone, Zyed, Bouna and Muhittin still trying to hide on the EDF site in fear.

The three young take refuge in a local housing a reactor, a device specifically dangerous. “They think the police will enter the central,” argues Mr Tordjman who during his long speech of nearly two hours will scream to the defendants, melting into tears police.

At 6:11 p.m., Bouna and Zyed die electrocuted. Muhittin, 10% of the body surface is burned, manages to get out of the EDF website. Relief will be alerted at 6:46 p.m..

The trial is scheduled to end Friday morning with the arguments of the defense. This case was brought in 2005 three weeks of riots in the French suburbs.
