The French president of the Muslim Faith, Dalil Boubaker said he wanted to double the number mosques in France in two years. A will that is debatable.
In the alleys of the annual gathering of Muslims in France at Le Bourget, the faithful find the shortage of mosques and prayer rooms. “In my city, Rosny-sous-Bois, one is obliged to pray outside and occupy public roads and it is not normal” , laments one of them.
In France, the 1905 law prohibits the financing of religious, while some are tempted to turn to foreign states. Others advocate exclusively hexagonal solutions: “We do not want to go into politics because when money is touched, it becomes dependent and mosques in France must be independent” says to micro France 3, the Imam of the Mosque of Montpellier.
The construction of mosques is a recurring issue. In 2008, the French Council of the Muslim Faith had already requested a doubling of places of worship. There are now 2200.
