“UMP” mark soon belong to history. The party headed by Nicolas Sarkozy should be renamed soon “Republicans.” A new name that debate right and left screaming.

Nicolas Sarkozy would have been convinced! When he decides to take the head of the UMP, in September, this is one of his former communicating at the Elysee blowing him the idea: the UMP name should change. Pierre Giacometti then proposed “Republicans.” At the time, nobody is packed within the party. Especially the US benchmark dislike.

But Nicolas Sarkozy, he believes. It will therefore, in full campaign for the presidency of the UMP, to give a major speech on the Republic (November 7, Paris) and try to get everyone to his cause. But the operation does not work as expected.

Rather the attacks in January and the Republican momentum that in is followed, which have converted some. In the image of Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet. But the No. 2 party recognizes that they are still a minority in the UMP.

On the left, opinions are more distinct. PS MP Christian Paul accuses Nicolas Sarkozy of being “customary inheritance recordings”

The Republic is a common good. It should not be appropriated. Nicolas Sarkozy was in honesty and in reality the party calling the Republican Right.

Even objection by the chronicler of France Inter, Thomas Legrand:

Anyway, the French seem rather indifferent to the name changes of political parties, as shown by a poll Ifop for the JDD.
