Nearly 1,600 feet cannabis were seized Tuesday in a pavilion located in Montigny-les-Cormeilles (Val-d’Oise) and two people were taken into custody on sight. This large scale plantation was discovered Tuesday afternoon by a bailiff who came to open the door of “uninhabited for several months” house through a real estate process, told AFP a judicial source, confirming a report by 20minutes.fr.
The bailiff then alert the police who went to the site and found 1,600 cannabis plants, grown from the basement to the ground floor of the pavilion in craft greenhouses. The source said the seizure has 850 large grass plants and 750 smaller ones, not yet “mature”. Moreover, “all the paraphernalia” necessary to cannabis cultivation, lamps, heaters and fans, was found. Putting up surveillance around the house, the police arrested a few hours later two men “who were trying to open the door of the house and had the key.”
According to the source, they should remain in custody until Friday before being brought to justice for an indictment for “drug trafficking.” In January, about 4,500 cannabis plants were seized in a villa in Malville, near Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), undoubtedly one of the largest seizures in “indoor” in France. According to the French Observatory of Drugs and Drug Addiction (OFDT), the cannabiculture (cannabis culture) is rising sharply over the past ten years in France, as in most European countries. The cannabis plants seizures have increased by 7.6% in 2013, with 141 tons seized, and are at an unprecedented level.
