“? And then Fools”: the mentally ill march against discrimination – Le Point

About 400 people marched Saturday in Paris and a hundred in Marseille in the second Mad Pride, a march to denounce stigma and prejudice against people with psychiatric disorders, said a journalist from AFP.

In Paris, the rhythm of percussion bands, dressed in brightly colored ponchos, harlequin outfits, pajamas, king crazy hats or climbed on stilts, protesters marched in a festive atmosphere of the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Hospital in the fourteenth district to the Place de la Bastille. The procession, accompanied by richly decorated floats, brought together patients, relatives of patients and representatives of associations.

Behind a barred banner of the slogan “Fous so what?”, To claim the right to the difference, they showed to the call from several associations, including Advocacy France, Aftoc, France Depression, Humapsy, Schizo … Yes !, Bicycle, France and Mental Health Free Life

-. ” Tired of the big gray walls “-

” For decades that mental health is only shown as dangerousness, “he told AFP Philippe Guérard, President of the Mad Pride 2015 and the Association of patients Advocacy France.

“Today we want to show the opposite, that fools may be in the street and assaulting anyone. He is tired of the great gray walls and white coats, we want to show our colors! ” added Mr. Guérard, colorful hat and flower necklace around his neck.

“I think it’s good that we assume and we go down to the streets to show that we are the like other people, “testified Cathy, 42, came from Burgundy, who suffers from bipolar disorder. She wore a sign with the words “I am BiPo but I treat myself.”

“The idea is to come and claim a correct psychiatry in France because it is believed that in most places, it is not,” said his side Matthieu , 33, president of the association applying Humapsy “humanistic psychiatry.”

“What we would like is already such that one stops wearing the pajamas in hospital, “he said, dressed himself in pajamas.

Like last year, several associations, including the two largest in the sector, the national user associations in psychiatry Federation (Fnapsy) and UNAFAM (which includes the families and relatives of the patients), were not attached to the event. They consider in particular that the “unworthy” situation of the mentally ill in France does not deserve a festive parade.

In Marseille, a hundred people, sick and educators, some of whom disguised demonstrated on Canebière the sound of batucada.

Among their slogans were particularly “more empathetic, less crazy,” “it’s Labels for clothes”, “In a world blind to the fada is king!” or “Treatment if I want when I want.”

The first Mad Pride had collected last year around 500 people in the streets of Paris.
