Pork in the canteen: “Children should eat at the same table, it is a condition of living together” – The Obs

The mayor of Chalon-sur-Saône has been successful. At least for now. Last March, the mayor (LR) Gilles PLATRET announced the removal of the pigs without alternative menu in canteens, next September in the name “of the principle of secularism”. The League of judicial defense of Muslims had then appealed to the Administrative Court of Dijon, dismissing the referred Thursday. Reaction Jean-Louis Bianco , President of the Observatory of secularism.

What do you think of the decision of the Administrative Court of Dijon?

– I can not comment on judicial decisions. However, the position of the Observatory is clear: we recommend to offer choice. We do not call the dishes without pork “meal replacement” because it gives a religious character. But we think offer varied menus, first of all, better for health, and offers the possibility to eat meat or not without stigmatizing students.

There have been rare cases which pupils were placed, for practical reasons, at different tables depending of their meals “hide”, “halal”, etc. Or, offer varied menus that allows everyone to lunch together. Children should eat at the same table. It is a condition of living together

What’s going to happen

-.? The administrative court has issued its decision on the bottom. He only felt that there was no urgency to act. [For the first effects of this decision should not be felt until mid-October, Ed] . The Court has not therefore finally settled and it will make a decision later. It is likely that the losing party [city hall or the League of judicial defense of Muslims, Ed] then do appeal to the Administrative Court or the State Council.
