Storms: three departments orange alert in the southwest – Le Figaro

WEATHER – Severe thunderstorms are expected Monday night in Gironde, in the Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques

. Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques on Monday were placed in orange alert by Météo France and Météo Consult *. A stormy degradation should explode over the coming hours in these departments due to high temperatures expected. Eleven other departments of the great Southwest quarter are also threatened.

According to Meteo France, the storm, which go back to Spain, “may be very violent” and could be accompanied by “intense rains giving accumulations of 20 to 30 millimeters or 50 millimeters in one to three hours. ” Hail and powerful winds are not excluded.

In the late afternoon on Monday, the first storm should burst in the departments placed on alert. They will extend evening to Limousin and Poitou-Charentes region. Thunderstorms marked by intense electrical activity and “locally” by heavy rainfall. “Wind gusts up to 80-90 km / h could even occur,” says Météo Consult * .

These thunderstorms will lose intensity during the night progessant eastward toward Auvergne and Burgundy where they advertise less virulent.

In the three departments placed in orange alert, danger of fire by lightning due to still very dry soils also expressed.

Last week, the department of Gironde had already faced with large-scale fires. 340 hectares of forest had gone up in smoke when several fires.
