Thunderstorms: 14 departments kept on alert – Le Point

Fourteen departments Northwest were Thursday morning orange alert for storms, the alert was lifted in nine southwestern departments, according to the bulletin of Météo-France. Vigilance was held Thursday at 6:00 on the Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne, Sarthe, the Ille-et-Vilaine, Finistère, Côtes d’Armor, the five departments of Lower and Upper Normandy and the Somme and Pas-de-Calais.

The alert was lifted in the Aquitaine region, the Vendée, Deux-Sèvres, Charente and Charente-Maritime, and the Gers and the Hautes-Pyrénées. “From time to time strong thunderstorms continue to back the Pays-de-Loire to Normandy,” said Météo-France, which provides “a lull on possible mid-day” with a return to a “strong thunderstorm activity.”

These storms could be “locally severe, with hail, strong gusts of winds and significant rainfall accumulations in very short period of time,” warns Météo-France.
