PARIS (Reuters) – Christian Estrosi, elected in December as President of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, said Friday he was about to give up his deputy, paving the way for a partial legislation in the Alpes-Maritimes.

the mayor of Nice Republicans had pledged during the campaign to regional resign from the national Assembly if victory but had then decided to wait for a decision of the State Council, received several appeals challenging the smooth election.

“I will not wait for the Council of State has ruled and I will give next Wednesday the president of the National Assembly my resignation,” he he said on Europe 1.

“If we get to June 1, there will be no possible parliamentary election for 12 months,” the electoral Code prohibiting an election in the last year of the term, he added.

“with the confidence that have always shown my constituents, I do not doubt for a moment that they trust the candidate or the candidate as I may,” continued Christian Estrosi, elected for the first time in 1988 in a district anchored on the right.

in December he was elected in part with voices left in a second round against the National Front pipes lists Marion Maréchal-Le Pen, after the withdrawal of candidates from the Socialist Party.
