What will be the future name of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy region? – Point

The people of the current Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy region have until midnight Sunday to go to the website “Region, I write your name” and choose their new name from the following Hauts-de-France, Nord-de-France or Terres du Nord. Yet according to a Odoxa poll published on March 6 to La Voix du Nord and Le Courrier Picard , the names Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie and Nord-Picardie arrived well ahead for 40% and 20% of respondents respectively.

the three names were among the proposals made by the 252,000 students and 35,000 sought. Neustria, Merovingian kingdom of France, the Boreas, literally “the north wind” in ancient Greek were not retained, probably considered too original.

According to France 3 Nord-Pas -de-Calais, the name “Hauts-de-France” should be retained. It is among the favorites in several polls. On France Bleu, “Hauts-de-France” far outweighs before “Flanders-Artois-Picardie”. On the website of France 3 Nord-Pas-de-Calais, “Hauts-de-France” came in the top 3 favorite names of the Yankees twice. Xavier Bertrand, meanwhile, told Paris Match there is little he thought North-de-France that would be retained.

A name inspired by Game of Thrones ?

the election of the future name gives rise to numerous diversions of Internet users, who see “the North Land” a reference to the American series Game of Thrones (The Throne of iron).

Anyway, these are anyway elected officials who will have the last word. The word “Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy”, it will remain a “caption” of the future name. July 1, all new regions will be communicated to the State of their choice new name. This will then be formalized by a decree of the Regional Council on 1 October. The northerners elected will be the first of the six regions affected by the name change to be decided.

The other regions are yet at the stage of public consultation and proposals names. The single for the moment have changed OFFICALLY name is the Centre that became Centre-Val-de-Loire since 16 January 2015. Its residents, meanwhile, are calling Centrais (es).
