Calais: a retired general arrested during the prohibited demonstration of Pegida – Public Good

The anti-migrant movement Pegida hard to expand outside of its historic stronghold of Dresden, Germany. In Calais yesterday, about 150 people demonstrated against refugees, defying the prohibition of the Interior Ministry. The dreaded cons-demonstration did not take place, but twenty pro-Pegida protesters were arrested after clashes with the police.

The inquiry before the cameras of the general corps Christian Thornton, former commander of the foreign Legion from 1994 to 1999, gave the spotlight to this demonstration by activists of “neo-Nazi type of ultra-right,” according to the prefecture. The former paratrooper, president of the Circle of “patriotic citizens”, a movement close to the extreme right, had denounced a ban “arbitrary and unreasonable”.

Four migrants rescued in a storm

the event prohibited as that of Montpellier (200 people) was held shortly after the rescue yesterday morning four Iranian migrants who nearly drowned off Sangatte. They were trying to go to England aboard a small boat three meters out of Dunkirk despite the storm in the English Channel. The alert was given by a fifth Iranian hypothermic who had been back to the beach to swim.
