All Arlésiens feel with great emotion the disappearance of Christian Frémont, who will remain as the Prefect who helped to recover from Arles 2003 floods. As Mayor, I will keep the memory alive of a great servant of the Republic, representing the authority of the State with rare efficiency but also availability and dedication of every moment. For elected officials, like the victims, farmers, entrepreneurs or individuals, the Prefect Frémont was a man of the field and decision capable of overcoming obstacles and impose swift and concrete solutions. His knowledge of the workings of the state and a network of contacts woven especially when he was director of studies at the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA) have greatly helped Arles to receive fair compensation and to revive the economy local after the disaster.
a regular presence on the ground, I developed personal ties with Christian Frémont who has always maintained friendships and habits Pays d’Arles. It is in this context that I had decorated with the insignia of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor there almost two years, when he left his position as Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic Nicolas Sarkozy. The Republican gesture was for me a great honor. I have since revised several times Christian Frémont who has never ceased to be interested in Arles projects.
Christian Frémont France embodied in its way, with efficiency and loyalty. It will remain as an example to all the Republicans in our country, beyond political affiliations. The Arles City Council will honor the Prefect Frémont at its next meeting. On behalf of the elected Arles Arles and all, I present the condolences of the City of Arles and its mayor’s widow, children and friends of this man of exceptional magnitude.
Hervé Schiavetti
