In 2024, it may be possible to swim in the Seine, at least for the Olympic athletes. Invited to BFMTV Wednesday 8 July, the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo has announced its commitment to the place where the river could practice swimming part of the triathlon, if the application was received for the capital receive Olympiads.
Making the Seine “bathing water”
The elected official even went further and said he wanted to make water of the Seine “bathing water” after the Olympics 2024. His comments recall those of Jacques Chirac. In 1988, one that still ran the City Hall promised that, within three years, “it would be possible to swim” in the river. Missed.
If the Seine has never been clean in 40 years, it is still not swimmable provided. The Paris prefecture in fact prohibits swimming in the river, “for health safety reasons.” Offenders are liable to a fine of 15 euros.
