Boubaker answers the call of Tillinac: “Muslims are not … – The Obs

The case was forgotten but here relaunched. 30 personalities, including Nicolas Sarkozy, Alain Finkielkraut, Jeannette Bougrab, Eric Zemmour, signed the appeal of the writer Denis Tillinac, “Hands off my Church” published in “Current values” to denounce the fact that churches can be transformed into mosques.

The text addresses the possibility, raised by Dalil Boubaker in June to use abandoned churches to address the lack of places of worship Muslims. Proposal he had, himself, removed that day. The rector of the Great Mosque of Paris reacts in the “Obs” to this petition.

The appeal of Denis Tillinac observes that “a church is not a mosque, and claim that ‘the rites are the same’ reports to a scandalous denial of reality. ” What do you say

– My position is clear-cut: I never said I wanted to transform churches into mosques! It was a conversation entirely impromptu and without intentionality nor from me, nor from Muslims who, moreover, do not place themselves at all in such a prospect!

And yet it is you who are referred …

– Signatories Text have not read my book ["Open Letter to the French", Kero, 2015, Ed] , that’s obvious. Reflection is mathematics, nothing more. This is not a finding or a proposal to replace the one by the other, or what do I know, never in my life. Besides, transform churches into mosques, it can not arise like that, for many reasons

From a technical point of view first.: both types of buildings do not have the same structure, symbolic elements are not the same, orientation and a number of provisions concerning Muslim places of worship have nothing to do with the places of worship of other religions. This is a perfect ignorant as to think you can interchange.

The examples in France are rare, and it was often an ordeal that cost much more than the Muslims to build their own places of worship. Besides the experience was not renewed.

Transform churches into mosques, why not?

Do you agree with the call then?

– Yes, broadly speaking, I am ready to go in this direction. I register in this vision, that we must preserve places of worship to their original destination. The remains, traditions, Latin, Gothic and the whole structure of Catholicism sacred space are respectable and should be respected as much as possible. Must be preserved in a country that has a long tradition of the Catholic church which has nothing to do with newer religions.

I am in favor of keeping worship for each specificity. There will be no understanding between religions with a good dialogue. Together, each in his tradition.

Is This call opportunistic in your

– I do not want see it as a political maneuver. But there certainly was a kind of sensitivity, nervousness related to all recent events. We are in the fantasy and intolerance. There is a tension in society, they say things that do not exist. There was bad faith on the part of those who launch such ideas. We must return to reason.
