For a few hours apart, two cars collided trains in Burgundy and Charente. Four people lost their lives.
Both accidents are followed within hours and resemble terribly. Two cars collided with regional express trains (TER), killing four people in total. In both cases, it seems that drivers have crossed the safety barriers so that they were lowered to make way to the train.
The first accident occurred in the Yonne, Etaule . By 15 hours, the car would be engaged on the level crossing despite the lowering of barriers, witnesses said. TER then hit the vehicle. The driver of the car, aged 46, died on the spot and his companion of 36 years, passenger in the vehicle, which was ejected, also died in the crash.
29 people on the train and the driver escaped unhurt. They were transported by bus to the station of Avallon.
The second accident occurred around 20 hours at Gensac-la-Pallue near Cognac (Charente). Again, the driver of the vehicle has bypassed automatic barriers closed the crossing and collided with a TER liaising between Cognac and Angouleme. The two passengers of the car were killed instantly and his driver was seriously injured.
No injuries were reported among the 43 passengers on the train.
