What is this group who dream of a “coup” in France? – Le Figaro

Hundreds of people belonging to the “14 July Movement” protested Tuesday afternoon in the hope of taking power. The gathering had not been officially declared, 300 people were arrested.

Some 300 people who dreamed of taking power in favor of a “coup” showed Tuesday in Paris to call the “14 July Movement” before being detained for most. The organizers had called on the Internet to gather Place de la Concorde in the morning, when the army marched there, before showing near the National Assembly in the hope of taking power. Who is behind this movement? How does it work? Elements answers.

But what is this movement?

On its website, the “14 July Movement” is presented as a “collective of ordinary citizens”, which means ” change the course of current history, “” change makers “and” fundamentally change the company’s management structures. ” This small group of a dozen representatives said “outside all political and religious movements.” In reality it is a motley gathering that mainly distributes complotistes theories. Its activists want to ban vaccines, advocating alternative medicine, accuse of treason those who are subject to Europe, denounced “the false debt bankers” used to “oppress” the people “economically” or condemn Americans ” squander our ancestral heritage, our larger companies, our airports, etc “. The list is long.

Since when is there?

Difficult to establish a fixed date. Without being specific, the “14 July Movement” says on its website that he was born “there a few months ago.” According to Le Monde , the origin of this movement was in March 2014, the date of release of the first video featuring some Eric Fiorile, one of the current spokespersons of the movement. The latter explains that he invented the concept of “démosophie” whose definition is found on its website: it is a “model of society which, instead of being led by the political oligarchy outcome of the Republic The would by logic and common sense of citizens without any selection thereof by the social situation, parties or sects. They therefore serve the interests of the people rather than multinational funding the political parties. ” But all activists of the movement do not adhere to the ideas of Eric Fiorile. Some dissociate himself from his “theses”, others claiming Anonymous. The movement of the videos also run on sites linked to Dieudonne and Alain Soral.

How is it organized?

Very present on the web, this group s’ is best known in recent weeks by broadcasting video and calling for demonstrations on social networks. Since 18 June 2015, a new body was created to represent movement: the National Transitional Council (NTC). According to its founders, who have dedicated a website in its own right, this entity on that date became “the only legitimate authority of the French nation.” An official announcement was even broadcast in several videos. “The number of members amounted to 315 at the moment, but the NTC aims to accommodate more people,” says spokeswoman Myriam Vouters in Les Inrockuptibles. According to a list published on their website, among the members of the CNT restaurateurs, the entertainment, pensioners, craftsmen, technicians, etc.

What did they want to practice in July 14

In this day of national celebration, their goal was to organize a seizure of power. On their website, they announced wanting to “suspend from office the entire caste politician and supports its main institutional, national, regional and local.” Clearly, they wanted to take control of strategic buildings: Elysée, Matignon, the Luxembourg Palace and National Assembly. They are given appointment Place de la Concorde, where the parade ended in order to train with them to help the army to take power. Unsurprisingly, the operation failed. They gathered behind the National Assembly and then to the North Station and Beaubourg, where 300 people were arrested for identity check.

What is their goal?

Simply put, these activists want to establish a new system of governance, to “make sovereignty to the French people.” In other words, exit the Republic and all the “politicians” who “act according to various interests, except the people.” Once overthrown institutions, this small group hopes to form a provisional government. To do this, he plans to recruit “a minimum of 2,000 citizens, volunteers,” drawn among Internet users who register on their site. The movement provides the draw shortly after July 14. The step after that? “The rewriting of the constitution, which is an essential step to ensure the sovereignty of the people,” he writes on his website.

What future for a movement like that?

Some videos on social networks were seen thousands and perhaps millions of times. “They are very active on social networks, but practically absent on the ground at the moment, it’s still small groups, explained to the Inrockuptibles Ornella Guyet, a journalist who has written extensively on the subject. This type of movement is hopeless, but for those who believe, the risk is to train disappointed with politics. (…) For people who enter politics, who are a bit lost, there are risks they are turning to this kind of movements that are at first some nice and attractive aspects, but which are potentially entrance doors to the extreme right, “she added.
