Two associations – the struggle of Collective against Islamophobia in France (CICF) and the League of Human Rights Festival – seized the judge to end the ban on women wearing burkini to visit the beaches in Cannes. According to the judge decided otherwise: the order made by the RS municipality of Cannes to avoid the “ risks of disturbances to public order ” is valid in his eyes. The Burkini remains forbidden to swim this August 14th.
On the form, the court hearing the application did not accept the “emergency” nature put forward by the associations because their application was made on 12 August for a ban in place since July 31st. The judge also ruled on the merits, and validates the principle of secularism brandished by the mayor and the risk of disturbing public order. He writes:
