The government proposes to extend the state of emergency until mid-July 2017 – The World

The prime minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, has justified this continuation – which must be validated by the Parliament – by the persistence of the terrorist threat.

Bernard Cazeneuve, during the transfer of power, with Manuel Valls at Matignon, on the 6th of December.

The text will be examined on Tuesday at the sitting of the national Assembly and the Senate Thursday.
François Hollande, had announced in mid-November want to extend this device, introduced after the attacks of 13 November 2015, until the presidential election of April-may because of the security threat.

The state of emergency, which was to end in mid-January, has already been extended four times and is far from making unanimity in France. The resignation of the government of Manuel Valls on December 6, implies its obsolescence within the next fifteen days, which forces the authorities to anticipate the extension.

critics believe this measure is at best ineffective, at worst, as a breach of fundamental rights.
