Avalanche in Ossau Valley : One dead and one injured in a state of hypothermia severe – Franceinfo

The third person, cut short by the avalanche in the late morning this Saturday, has been found : it is a 50 year-old woman. Another person is in a state of absolute urgency, the third is unscathed. The 3 hikers were in the area of Pont-de-Camps, in the valley of Ossau.

This is the balance sheet given at about 15: 15 by the sub-prefecture of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques : A 50 year-old woman died of a cardiac arrest, a man is suffering from hypothermia severe and was transported by land routes (taking account of the difficult weather conditions for the helicopter) and the third hiker, who had given the alert, is free.

The third person, cut short by the avalanche in the late morning this Saturday, has been found : it is a 50 year-old woman. Another person is in a state of absolute urgency, the third is unscathed. The 3 hikers were in the area of Pont-de-Camps, in the valley of Ossau.

The casting is produced outside the ski area, in the valley of Gabardères, at about 1900 meters of altitudeau level in the area of Pont de Camps, to the south of lake Fabrèges.
It was originally washed away three people. The first was loose and gave the alarm. Later, the rescuers reached the lifeless body of the hiker, and the hiker in serious condition.

The victim would be the companion of the injured who is an experienced hiker, according to prefecture.

Alerted to 13h, the emergency supplies were immediately made on the spot : fifteen firefighters including agents of the gendarmerie Squad High mountain and two dog teams. They had been deployed by helicopter thanks to the Dragon 64 on this area rather wild and little easy access. Tous ski patrollers stations have been solicited to lend a helping hand to firefighters because, in such incidents, which unfortunately has been confirmed, the time factor is paramount to the survival of the victims.

The avalanche risk remains of 3 out of 5 and the greatest vigilance is called for with such current weather conditions
