Youssouf Fofana, the executioner of the gang of barbarians, sentenced to ten years in prison – The Figaro

VIDEOS – The murderer of Ilan Halimi was held on Tuesday for attempted extortion earlier to his crime. He wanted to extort a “tax” to several personalities in the name of the “Front for the Liberation of Palestine”.

Youssouf Fofana, who was sentenced in 2009 to life imprisonment for the kidnapping and murder of the young jew Ilan Halimi, was sentenced on Tuesday to ten years of prison for extortion attempts and death threats prior to this crime. To justify this penalty, the president of the 16th chamber of the tribunal correctional of Paris, Isabelle Prévost-Desprez, has pointed to the “extreme gravity” of the facts. At the hearing, the ex-chief of the “gang of barbarians”, 36-year-old was introduced Tuesday as a “trader of terror”, but he was quickly ordered to return to custody, a request that was granted.

Fofana was accused of having sent, between 2002 and 2004, threatening letters and ransom demands to forty people, mostly corporate executives, from Rolex to Whirlpool passing by Toshiba. But also the former president of Doctors without borders, Rony Brauman. According to his lawyer the more recent, Me Emmanuel Ludot, Youssouf Fofana comes to object to a court-appointed lawyer, and could not be represented at the hearing. Its presence is not guaranteed.

For the duration of the investigation, Youssouf Fofana, who was extradited from Ivory Coast to France in march 2006 in the framework of the statement on the murder of Ilan Halimi, has refused to answer questions from the judges.

“what is it going to change my life?”-t-it launched in December 2013 in reference to the sentence he is serving. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.

In 2002, four years before the murder of Ilan Halimi, targeted as a jew and, therefore, necessarily wealthy, according to the gang leader, five people were receiving threats accompanied requests for payment of a tax claimed by the French branch of the Front for the liberation of Palestine (FLP). In 2004, other victims received similar letters from a group called “MAFIA K1 FRY”. In the same year, 26 people were receiving e-mails signed “Armata Horns” requiring are to serve the cause of independence of corsica. Each time, the “operating modes”, “the choice of victims”, “the financial demands”, “threats”, are “substantially the same”, note the prosecution.

It will have to wait for February 2006 to ensure that comparisons between these three cases and the murder of Ilan Halimi lead investigators to Youssouf Fofana, who reminds the prosecution, admitted his involvement in 2007 and 2008. Sentenced to eleven occasions between 2000 and 2013, including for robbery and violence, aggravated and apology of terrorism, Youssouf Fofana is detained in the prison of Condé-sur-Sarthe (Orne), the most secure France, where he is in solitary confinement. Become an islamist radical and extremely violent, he has assaulted several supervisors who are now forced to protect himself to serve the meal. In 2012, he was filmed in his prison of Clairvaux in holding speech with anti-semitic and islamist.

Ilan Halimi, 23, was abducted on January 20, 2006 at Sceaux, where he had been lured into an ambush by a young girl used as “bait”. After fruitless negotiations with his family for a ransom of 450,000 euros and a sequestration violent three-weeks punctuated by torture, it had been found dying. He died at the hospital.
