The drivers of two-wheelers are schizophrenic – TF1

66% of the two wheels say they feel less safe on the roads. Yet, half of them admits dangerous driving. Here the finding, paradoxical and uplifting, the latest barometer Axa prevention, which focuses on two motorized wheels. We learn that the scooter riders and bikers take risks on the road while driving too fast and using their phone on their gear. Overview of the different results.


1. Using the phone
23% of two-wheeler drivers admit they sometimes phoning while driving. Worse, 23% say they do not even use their hands free kit when making a call, then they are on the road. The scooter riders are the worst offenders: they are more likely to call while driving (38% against 18% for motorcyclists), not to use their hands-free kit (37% against 14% for the bikers) and send or read text messages (28% of scooter riders against 6% of bikers). However, they remain more cautious than drivers who are 34% to call on the road.


2. Speed ​​
Other bad behavior: 57% of drivers of two-wheeled recognize drive at 65 km / h in the city and 41% said they sometimes run at 160 or 170 km / h on Freeway. And these are the bikers who take the most risk: 59% roll over the speed limit in town, against 50% of scooter riders, and 46% are too fast on the highway, against 27% for scooter riders. These figures, however, have significantly declined in 10 years. They were in fact 73% to drive faster than 65 km / h in the city in 2004 and 62% to reach 160/170 km / h on motorways, a decrease of 16 and 21 points.


3. Alcohol
If 93% of drivers of two-wheeled consider it dangerous to drive after drinking four or five glasses of alcohol, yet 15% say take the road they drank the same amount . As for cannabis, 94% believe it is dangerous to take the road after drinking. 15% of scooter riders still recognize that they have already taken before hitting the road, against 7% of bikers.


4. The Highway Code
More than half of drivers of two-wheelers (58% exactly) say cross the orange light. However, they remain far less likely than drivers who are 72% did not stop when they reach an amber light.


5. Equipment
more disturbing: 66% of scooter riders and 37% of motorcyclists admit driving while not properly equipped. 20% of scooter riders and 6% of bikers do not recognize even use gloves when driving. As for the jackets with protectors, 11% of motorcyclists and scooter riders 46% of non-users. Just like motorcycle boots, that 68% of drivers and 68% of scooter riders do not slip on.


Drivers of motorcycles would, finally, that their security is better taken into account in urban development (68% of respondents), which promotes better equipment drivers (39%) that legalized traffic between rows (36%) and is developed active and passive vehicle safety (34%).
