The UMP mayor of Compiegne, Philippe Marini, resigned from his position as Senator of the Oise, arguing “problem that would arise if the non-accumulation of still effective,” he said Thursday in a statement, a few months after trying in vain to get the presidency of the Senate. He will be replaced by former Senator and Mayor of Oursel-Maison (Oise), Alain Vasselle (UMP).
“My decision, carefully considered in advance solves the problem that would arise if the non-accumulation of still effective,” writes Philippe Marini, 64. “I intend to continue doing my Mayor of Compiègne mandates and President of the Agglomeration of Compiègne area at least until their current term in March 2020,” he added .
He said that he makes this decision “without bitterness, after more than twenty-two years of parliamentary busy life,” including “sixteen at the head of the Finance Committee.” He stated that he could “find” his “total freedom, especially to resume the independent professional activity that was” his, “the banker of business consulting.”
Affected by the tax authorities
Inspector retired in Finance, Philippe Marini had lost in October as president of the Senate Finance Committee, he held since 2011. He was replaced by former Socialist minister Michèle André after the election of Gérard Larcher (UMP) at the head of the Senate, the rule that the post be given to a member of the opposition. Previously, he was the rapporteur of the commission.
In September 2008, he was a candidate for the primary of the UMP for the presidency of the Senate, but was beaten in the first round by Gérard Larcher. It was again a candidate last September in this primary, won again by Gérard Larcher.
The Mayor of Compiègne is covered by the tax authorities for the assessment of a property in its “family since the 1930s.” It has also been criticized for using its parliamentary reservation.
