Poverty is worsening in Ile-de-France – L’Express

The Ile-de-France is particularly unequal. If, as stated by INSEE in June, this is the region where the median standard of living is highest, it is also one that concentrates the highest living standard disparities. Poverty is heavily concentrated in Seine-Saint-Denis, north of Paris, and part of the Val-de-Marne, denounced Catholic Relief Services in a report on the territorial divide.

Worryingly: the concentration of people in poverty has increased significantly in recent years. The poorest departments are increasingly poor. In 8 years, the proportion of poor households in the Ile-de-France increased two times faster than in metropolitan France. The Seine-Saint-Denis, Val d’Oise and the Val-de-Marne are particularly affected.

Social Housing Problem

And the areas in question combine the difficulties since they are marked by a death rate due to the higher cancer progression obesity or a food insecurity.

The income disparity is found between the eight counties in Ile-de-France, with a gap of more than 50% between the median disposable income of Seine-Saint-Denis and the Hauts-de -Seine but also within each department with a high concentration of poverty in certain municipalities or certain boroughs. For the Souich Hervé, President of Catholic Relief Services in the region, there is “more poor people in the Ile-de-France.

How can this territorial divide? By” the lack of truly affordable housing people in poverty “but also because of” their sole concentration in certain municipalities or neighborhoods of Ile-de-France, “says Catholic Relief Services.

” particular attention should be reach a balanced allocation of social housing buildings across the municipal area to avoid creating new pockets of poverty by an excessive concentration of these constructions in some areas, “recommends the association.
