A man shot and killed in the northern districts of Marseille – Le Point

A man was shot dead Monday in the town La Paternal, in Marseille, less than 48 hours after a triple homicide also in the northern districts, bringing to 11 the death toll in three months in the Bouches-du Rhone. The man in his fifties was hit by several projectiles in a car park in the grounds of the housing project that faces the National Interest Market (MIN) of Arnavaux, according to a source close to investigation. He was “hit chest”, said the naval firemen from Marseille. Investigators were looking for witnesses to the killing, which took place between 10 h 30 and 11 hours, said the source close to the investigation.

In the late morning, agents forensic conducted surveys near the victim, after climbing a white tent in the parking lot, and a blue tarp to protect the body from view. In this housing estate of small tidy sets, almost deserted, battered sofa sat in the parking lot and chickens peck still not far from the victim. Some people watching the work of investigators from the balcony. Man killed “is not someone in the neighborhood, it is not here, he came to buy its consumption networks that are there,” believes a young person of twenty years living the neighborhood. He said he was surprised “a little, a lot still” a man is killed in front of his building, because the city Paternelle seemed far spared from homicide by firearm. “Just yesterday we talked about it, (it is) the only (instead of the northern districts) where there are no deaths,” he notes. “Apparently, this is the first time it happens in this neighborhood,” says a man came to visit her parents who live in the city for forty years.

“A safety Marshall plan”

According to another source close to the investigation, it is not acquired, unlike the triple murder Saturday night in a nearby city, be it a regulation accounts. The victim seems indeed “not related to the network” of drug trafficking, according to the first elements of the investigation. The Commissioner of Police and a representative of the prosecution went on site, without comment. Stéphane Ravier, Senator-Mayor FN 13 and 14th arrondissements, also on site, called “a Marshall Plan of security and the fight against drugs in Marseille.”

This new fatal shooting operates 36 hours after a triple murder in Bassens city, a distance of only a few hundred meters from La paternal. Saturday night, three men were killed as they watched as a dozen other people, a football match in a night grocery store in the heart of the city.

Investigators were moving to this matter to a settling of accounts, the involvement of two of the three victims in drug trafficking is “fairly established.” The third man killed seems however, a source close to the investigation, to be a “collateral victim”. Bassens was there a few years ago, one of the most important “plans narcotic” of Marseille, but traffic there has become much smaller since the network heads, Laribi brothers were arrested and sentenced in December 2015 for a triple homicide four years earlier.
