During a trip to Haute-Corse, Wednesday, October 19, Nicolas Sarkozy has put the emphasis on the restoration of the authority of the State. “I want to say my amazement at the climate of lawlessness that reigns in our country,” said the candidate for the primary from the right, a few days after the violent incidents that broke out between nationalist protestors and the forces of law and order on the Island of Beauty. At the same time, he took the opportunity to reaffirm the membership of Corsica to the Republic, which is not “questionable” according to him.

The former head of the State has committed to register the island in the constitution for a reform : “I want to be brought in transparency, the inclusion in the constitution of the specificity island of Corsica in order to be able to then open all of the debates, especially on the tax”.

Referring to the implicit abandonment, in 2014, violence illegal, “which would poison the life of the island”, by the national liberation Front of Corsica (FLNC), Nicolas Sarkozy stated that “Corsica soothed can have more powers within the framework of the French Republic“. It is as well said in favour of a community unique, in place of the two departments current Corse-du-Sud and Haute-Corse, which will enter into force in 2018, but “without that it can be implemented in any how.” He has pleaded for “transparency and the guarantee that each territory could make its voice heard and its needs”.
