Two firefighters were slightly injured by acting during a fire Sunday morning in a company specializing in the transportation of hazardous materials, near Bordeaux, who caused the explosion of several trucks.

the first fire followed by an explosion, declared before 7 am in a tanker parked on a storage parking lot of the Trans CD , specializing in the transport of hazardous materials, Seveso low threshold, located in an industrial area in Bassens, north of Bordeaux.

the truck was parked at the edge of parking along a fence adjacent to a neighboring building with corrugated iron. The investigation was entrusted to the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP), who said “not yet know if the cause is accidental or intentional.”

Metal debris was thrown up ‘outside of society, some ending up in the gardens of homes but were not injured, said the official communication of the county fire and rescue service (SDIS) of the Gironde. Only two firefighters were slightly injured during the operation, “knee and ear,” he said.

Following this first explosion, 5 to 10 trucks tanker among the hundred that was stored on the parking lot, also caught fire and a second loud explosion then occurred.

According to preliminary information, the heavyweight tanks contained residues of liquefied gas. 85 fire trucks and eleven water lance were sent on site and the fire was contained before 10 hours. Firefighters, however, always watered trucks tanks to cool. Any risk of pollution has been removed, according to firefighters, the water used to extinguish the fire which has been retrieved.
