Pedophilia in the Church: Cardinal Barbarin heard by police – L’Express

The Cardinal Barbarin has to meet Wednesday morning to questions from investigators. The Primate of the Gauls, blamed for acts of “not reporting” of sexual abuse on minors and endangering the lives of others should especially be explained on the case of Father Bernard Preynat, set end review January for sexual assaults on young scouts between 1986 and 1991, and who remained at his post, in a parish where he was in contact with children until the end of August 2015.

Cardinal Philippe Barbarin arrived on foot at about 8 am on the premises of the departmental Brigade of family Welfare (3rd arrondissement). It should be understood under the open hearing, that is to say without placement in custody, according to sources close to the dossier.



What legal consequences?

With this hearing, which follows several months of scandal and a challenge to the attitude of the Church of France against pedophilia cases, the investigations undertaken in the context of two inquiries ordered by the prosecutor of Lyons ago three months coming to an end.

It will then return to the prosecutor, in the coming weeks, to carry it out or not classifying the case, the referring court directly or by entering a magistrate.
