Alert thunderstorms and strong winds affected several departments – Le Figaro

The storms are expected to intensify in the evening, accompanied by violent gusts of wind, hail and heavy falls of showers. Authorities urge caution.

This early weekend looks stormy and windy in the north and east of the country. By Friday evening, winds and locally heavy thunderstorms are expected. The meteorological institute Meteo Consult * has already placed two departments orange alert because of wind gusts that could blow up to 100 km / h. This is the North and Pas-de-Calais. It also blows hard on the Seine-Maritime? Picardy and Brittany.

Météo Consult also placed 39 departments “significant risk” to the storms. The agency expects in the night “sometimes virulent storms and strong northern winds in east-central of the country through the northeast.”

Meanwhile, Weather France has already placed 11 departments in eastern France in orange alert because of a risk of thunderstorms “locally strong, accompanied by violent gusts of wind, hail and heavy falls of rain.” The relevant departments are: the Moselle, the Meurthe-et-Moselle, Vosges, the four departments of the Franche-Comté, and Ain, Haute-Savoie, Savoie and Isère. These disturbances continue Saturday.

The first consequence of these violent storms: in Corsica, a father died struck in front of his wife and three young children. The accident happened Friday in the mountains of the island’s center. The victim died on the spot during a walk above the village of Vivario (Haute-Corse) a few hundred meters of the territorial road linking Ajaccio and Bastia, according to France 3 Corse.

In addition, three adults and a child were electrified during a walk in the meadows of the mountain village of Bastelica (Corse-du-Sud). Their life is not in danger but they were hospitalized in Ajaccio after being airlifted by the Civil Security. In recent days, on the Island of Beauty, thunderstorms, lightning strikes punctuated by causing frequent fire starts, have multiplied. The authorities have launched appeals for caution.
