A 3.7 magnitude earthquake felt in the Alpes-Maritimes – USAinformations

The tremor was brief but intense. An earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale was felt on Saturday 3rd September in eastern Alpes-Maritimes, particularly in Nice. It occurred at 9:14 p.m. local time.

The epicenter was between the towns of Sospel and Breil-sur-Roya, Menton in the hinterland, in the automatic records of the National Network seismic monitoring (ReNaSS), which are to be confirmed by an analyst.

“It’s an intensity that is not very strong, but that could be felt and was able to drop some tiles saw near the epicenter with the residential areas, “ told Nice-Matin Françoise Courboulex, seismologist at GéoAzur. ” It no link with the earthquake amateur, we are not on the same fault “ , she adds.

Firefighters received a few calls but found no damage. A magnitude of between 3 and 3.9 corresponds to an earthquake “minor”, not a priori causing material damage, but felt by the population, as evidenced by the reactions on Twitter or in our direct (#SEISME).
