THE SCAN POLICY – Some 131,000 socialist activists are invited to vote on Thursday in sections of the party to choose between four different programs. This is the first step in the June conference.
All hands to battle, rue de Solferino. Socialist activists are expected to vote this Thursday evening to decide the four motions in the party conference.
“Who can vote?
Only day to PS activists contribution in December 2014 may be present in the polling stations. According to figures of Solferino, they would be 131,000 activists in a position to vote. The President François Hollande, for example, will not vote because he has not renewed his membership fee.
“Where and when can you vote?
Activists who wish to vote must go to one of the 3200 socialist sections spread throughout the territory. Voting opens and closes at 17h to 22h. The final results will be known on Friday afternoon, although early trends will be known on Thursday evening.
“Why militants vote?
The weight obtained by each motion will determine the place of their representatives in governing bodies (National Office, National Council) and the federations. The vote on motions to define the ideological orientation of the party.
“What is the expected participation?
This is the biggest unknown This internal ballot. The results are largely dependent motions of this data while many executives fear a weak mobilization. The most optimistic estimates indicate 80,000 participants.
“What is the expected outcome?
Jean-Christophe Cambadélis wishes come first, with at least 50% of votes. For the motion B, the “rebellious”, a score of 30 to 35% would be satisfactory. “What are the next steps?
On 28 May, socialist activists decide between the first signatories of the two motions led the way. Whoever wins will become the first secretary of the Socialist Party, a position currently held by Jean-Christophe Cambadélis, candidate for reelection to the motion A. In a third and final time, from 5 to 7 June in Poitiers, the party will meet in Congress to designate the leaders nationally and locally. The compositions of the bodies depends on the outcome of the vote motions Thursday.
Following the conference, the line of the PS vis-à-vis the executive should be clarified. The PS holds a convention within six months of each presidential and mid-term of five years.
