A woman at the head of the state? More nine in ten French (94%) say they would elect one, according to a survey * BVA Opinion for Orange and I-TV aired this Saturday. In detail, supporters of the left are in favor to 98% and 90% right. This figure rose by nine points in ten years, also indicates the polling institute.
In contrast, only 41% of French respondents feel that there has been progress in five years on the professional and wage plan on gender equality, against 57% in 2005. Women are even fewer (30%) than men (54%) perceive progress in this area.
On the political front, pessimism appears less strong but is still 62% of French people believe that progress has been made in terms of gender equality, a figure down five points in ten year old.
* Study conducted among a representative sample of 966 people, constituted under the quota method, aged 18 and older, recruited by telephone and interviewed by Internet on 5 and 6 March 2015.
