Pollution: alternating traffic established in Paris despite Ségolène … – Liberation

It took several peaks of pollution at record levels for the government finally decided to set up alternating traffic in Paris and neighboring towns. The measure comes after an unlikely controversy between the mayor (PS) in Paris, Anne Hidalgo, favored a reduction in car traffic and the Minister of Ecology, Segolene Royal, clearly more anxious not to displease the motorists that consequences of these peaks on health, especially children.

Is it the government procrastinated?

Anne Hidalgo said almost openly on Twitter: “. I am pleased that the State has agreed to set up alternating traffic on Monday, I asked for a few days” While a high pollution was measured Ile-de-France since Tuesday, the Minister of Ecology seemed reluctant to act. Thursday, she had estimated about alternating traffic, it was “unreasonable [d] to impose so fast that galley [the people of] the suburbs.” Friday after intervention of the President, she finally consider its implementation.

Who is affected by alternating traffic?

The measure applies in Paris and two and twenty neighboring towns to the capital. Monday, odd calendar date, all light vehicles (cars, scooters and motorbikes) whose registration number ends in an odd number can circulate. If the measure is held Tuesday, only vehicles with even numbers will be allowed to ride. Offenders are liable to a fine of 22 euros.

Can still around, regardless of the day, and plate number, clean cars (electric, hybrid, LPG …) and cars carrying at least three people. Obviously, all the vehicles of public service missions (fire, police, gendarmerie, health-related transportation, to the accompaniment of the disabled, delivery of newspapers, mail, dumpsters …) will not be subject to the measure.

How to get around?

The public transport (metro, RER, bus and tram) will be free, as residential parking.
