After months of work, the Paris Council adopted Monday, February 9th the 2015-2020 anti-pollution plan for the capital. The new plan has been almost a year supported by the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, in particular is to restrict access of the city to the most polluting vehicles outside the capital while supporting the development of clean transportation. The first steps of this plan will be effective from July 2015.
The Council of Paris on Monday adopted 09 February on pollution control plan supported by the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. This plan, sitting on both incentives and restrictive measures, designed to develop clean transport modes and reduce air pollution in the capital.
The iconic measure of this plan is the ban access to the capital with the oldest and most polluting vehicles. This aspect of the plan will come into force by order of the Paris Prefecture of Police under the Energy Transition Act to test low emission zones. The controls will be based on the future “certificate air quality” recently announced by the government to distinguish between vehicles according to their emission level.
This aspect of the plan will be phased in from in July 2015, first by denying access to the capital to the most polluting vehicles (trucks and coaches initially). The number of vehicles affected by the ban will extend gradually to allow access to vehicles “five star” (registered after January 2011 or January 2015 for two-wheelers).
In return for these restrictions for polluting vehicles, incentives are put in place to encourage the use of public transport or own transport. These measures must propose to people abandoning their vehicle pollutant free one-year subscription to public transportation or Vélib ‘subscription and an introductory offer Autolib’.
To promote the bicycle use, condominiums will also receive grants to build bicycle shelters and install charging stations for electric vehicles. Professionals will also be helped to acquire electric vehicles or gas
