Haute-Savoie | Vigilance orange snow – ice – avalanche in the Alps – Le Dauphiné Libéré

While the snow level drops until Paline countries of Savoy, Meteo-France has placed the departments of Isere, Savoie and Haute-Savoie in Vigilance Orange, the time for snow, ice and avalanche risk.

the tracking early concerns the Savoie, Haute Savoie, Isère and Alpes-Maritimes

” the avalanche activity expected over the next 24 hours will not be exceptional but serious enough to warrant an orange alert, it is observed on average one to two times a winter in the mountains concerned. ” the statement said adding that an active disturbance crosses the Rhône-Alpes region.

In this disturbance, the snow level is around 800 m in general, but when it reaches the east of Rhône -alpes end of the night, the snow level may drop to 400 to 500 m altitude in the alpine valleys. We wait 5 to 10 cm to 500 m altitude in the inland valleys, 10 to 20 cm on the access to the tunnels of Mont Blanc and Frejus, and up to 20 to 30 cm on the access to stations.

We also expect 2 to 5 cm at the neck of the Rossatière, on the highest point of the A48 (Lyon-Grenoble) This disturbance is evacuated eastward mid morning and gives way to a showers regime with a snow level around 600 m, but may give sleet to the plain

with regard to avalanches in the French Alps. snowfall will be more important on massive pre-Alpine, Beaufortain and Mont-Blanc (40 cm from 1500 m) on the massive further south (20 to 30 cm). Many avalanches of powdery snow will fire spontaneously during snowfall (very likely, level 4). Some of these avalanches, larger scale, could reach an altitude of some road sectors or medium usually exposed mountain infrastructure.

The peak of avalanche activity is expected in late night and early morning. The avalanche activity then drop sharply with the end of the rains.
