A nearly septuagenarian man was in custody Wednesday night in Nice on suspicion of sexual touching of Julia, a 14-year-old runaway he has hosted for four days in his apartment in Nice.
Julia was found Tuesday afternoon in a nice street with a busy four days after disappearing, said prosecutor Eric Bedos Nice.
“Julia told police that she stayed with a man and was able to locate his apartment. This gentleman confirmed that he had met the girl in Nice Friday, August 8. He saw that she was young and asked her to come to him in his small apartment, “said Mr. Bedos.
In the current state of the investigation,” it would have been improper conduct “on Julia but is not a priori” threats or violence, “said the prosecutor.
This would possibly “sexual touching” and not rape, yet Mr. Bedos specified. The prosecutor was not able to talk to an actual kidnapping of the girl at his host.
The detention of this man began Wednesday at 7:00. The prosecutor decided to extend Wednesday night.
– Recognized in the street –
The police had been some confusion in the first statements of the teenager gathered Tuesday afternoon. On the surface, it does not appear to have been subjected to violence, had immediately police said.
The teenager was found in the street near the Promenade des Anglais by a young mother who took her to drink at a restaurant and then called the police. Julia was then conducted with the juvenile.
According to the police, after an argument with his father, Julia had left Friday night on foot family home located in Biot, about twenty miles from Nice. She ran away in shirt and floor tap, no phone and no money.
The police had then gone to great means to access it, involving up to 30 people. They had initially raked the village of Biot, before establishing a broader system and launch an appeal for witnesses.
The military had tracked him to Antibes, Nice and then she had joined hitchhiking. The girl was in particular seen near the main train station.
Relatives of Julia had also distributed posters with his picture, especially in the area around the station, while the local press had published his portrait.
The wide dissemination of the photograph of the young slender girl of 1.59 meter and long light brown hair paid off.
Sandy, the mother who has Julia recognized in the street after seeing his portrait, said the girl did not seem aware of the research undertaken to find her.
“I saw his face on a poster in the street. He impressed me. So I approached her and asked her a few questions, “he told the mother interviewed by the newspaper Nice-Matin. “She seemed frightened, lost, tired,” she has said.
