Un caver 54-year-old died on Saturday in the collapse of a gallery in Saint-Projet-Saint-Constant, north east from Angoulême (Charente).
Eight experienced persons, members of the Association of caving of La Rochefoucauld, explored a gallery known, to the north of Angoulême. A first landslide took place 25 meters below ground and one of the cavers was partially buried. The group attempted to rescue him but he died when a second landslide.
The fire brigade of the Group of reconnaissance and intervention in dangerous areas (Climb) rescued at the end of the afternoon the seven other cavers, unharmed but shocked. “The safety conditions were met and therefore an investigation is initiated to investigate the cause of the death”, said at the press Stephanie Veyssière, vice-Prosecutor of the Republic.
